God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn are coming to Netflix and Amazon Prime, Sony has announced.
Kratos’ antics have been a gamer’s favorite since the first Santa Monica installment in 2005. The franchise got stronger and stronger, and God of War of 2018 has become one of the most critically acclaimed games on PlayStation 4.
Horizon Zero Dawn, a post-apocalyptic dinosaur adventure from Guerilla Gameswas just as successful, selling over 20 million copies by February this year.
Both games seem ripe for screen adaptations: they boast compelling characters; their worlds, from the misty mountains of Midgard to the machine-ravaged wilds, could be just as breathtaking on TV; and right now they may be at the peak of their popularity.
God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and Gran Turismo TV series in development
The news was revealed by the President Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan during an interview at a Sony business briefing.
Ryan made three announcements: the God of War show is coming to Amazon; the show Horizon Zero Dawn is in development on Netflix; and Gran Turismo is also being adapted for television.
This follows rumors of a God of War series on Amazon, with earlier reports claiming the show was being developed by Mark Fergus and Hawk Otsby of The Expanse and showrunner Wheels of time Rafe Judkins in collaboration with PlayStation Productions. Sony has yet to confirm any further details.
The news also comes amid a slew of other video game adaptations in development: The Last of Us Pedro Pascal is coming to HBO next year: BioShock is being made into a movie on Netflix; MCU star Anthony Mackie is starring in the series Twisted metal; and series Fallout is in development at Amazon.
Fans auditioned for the role of Kratos for God of War show on Amazon
The biggest question is who will they get to play Kratos? Christopher Judge voiced a character in a 2018 game and is set to return in God of War Ragnarök this year.
After the news was shared on social media, gamers began casting their dreams, choosing the right option for the role of Kratos. As a result, one of the actors became a popular choice: Dave Bautista.
One user wrote: F**K YEA! I really only see one guy as Kratos and that’s @DaveBautista other fancasts just don’t fit” while another tweeted “Dave Bautista or nothing for Kratos”.
There are few other names in the mix such as Dwayne Johnson, Jason Momoa, Jeffrey Wright, Triple H and Jon Bernthal.
Some fans even suggested Tom Holland for the role – seemingly a joke due to the fact that he was cast as Nathan Drake in the film. Unchartedwhich was shocking to say the least. On the other hand, if Mark Wahlberg can be cast as Sally, anything can happen.
